FAQ

Where are you located?

The office is on the far west side of San Antonio. The closest cross streets are Culebra Road, Grissom Road, and Tezel Road. The office is behind El Pollo Loco Restaurant and McDonald’s (too bad it is not Chick-fil-A; they have good chicken).

9222 Culebra Road, Suite 105San Antonio, TX 78251

Is there parking available? What about handicapped parking?
There are several free parking spaces in the parking lot located outside the office (please don’t park in the office because I do not currently offer drive-thru sessions). There is also one handicapped space available directly in front of the entrance.
What times are you available for sessions?
The office offers daytime hours Monday – Friday from 9 am until 4 pm and nighttime hours (these are usually in high demand) Monday – Thursday from 6 pm until 9 pm. There are no Friday night hours (that is date night with wife or kids), and Saturday appointments are from 9 am to 12 pm.
How long are the sessions, and how often do we meet?
Counseling sessions run for 50 minutes and start on the hour (Ex. 7-7:50 pm). We will meet once a week.
Do you take Insurance?
Yes, I am currently in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, Cigna, Tricare, and Tricare East.
How do I schedule an initial appointment?

There are a couple of ways to schedule appointments. Online, you can schedule an appointment through the website (guess what? you’re here already), or you can call the office at (210) 756-6694 and leave a voice mail message. You also can text when you would like to meet and include your name, phone number, and email address. I guarantee a response in 24 hours or less.

Do you offer telehealth or face-to-face appointments?
Currently, I offer in-office appointments upon request and video sessions using Zoom.
With what specific populations do you work?
I currently work with people age 17 to 99 years old. I work with men, women, couples, and families. I also work with heterosexual people, homosexual people, and people involved in other sex-positive roles, such as Kink positive, BDSM, Polyamorous, and Threesomes.
What services do you offer?
I offer couples counseling, marriage counseling, relationship counseling, family counseling, and sex therapy (whew, you talk about S-E-X?).
What is a session like with you?
We sit down and go over homework from the last session and discuss any problems or concerns over the week. Then, we set goals regarding what you want to work on for the session, review what you are taking home from the session, and go over new weekly challenges and homework.
Is homework required?
Yes, homework is assigned each session based on what we talked about (I am not in school anymore). The idea behind the homework is for you to practice independently at home what we discussed in the session
What style of counseling do you use in sessions?
I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and the Gottman method of marriage counseling.
Do you use any other counseling methods in your sessions?
I am certified as an Animal Assisted Therapist through the University of North Texas. I have two dogs, Leia and Freddie, that I use in counseling sessions. I also use art therapy techniques, journaling techniques, bibliotherapy (reading books), and sand trays in session.
What is your training and experience in working with relationship issues?

I have a Master’s degree in Licensed Professional Counseling, a Master’s degree in School Counseling, and over 50 credits related to a Ph.D. I am certified to use assessments and tests due to my advanced classes (That’s a lot of classes. Are you smart?).

I attend annual continuing education programs in November through the Texas Counselor Association’s annual conference. I must prove I am fully qualified to be a Licensed Professional Counselor by submitting proof of my continuing education credits every two years when I renew my license. I have been a professional counselor since 2005, working with individuals, couples, and families in professional settings.

What is one thing I should know about you?
I have a dark sense of humor and am sarcastic when I am with friends. Oh, and I do use terms like crazy, insane, and psycho.
Do you ever talk about your clients to family or friends?
No, because that would be a violation of trust and confidentiality, not to mention a breach of ethical guidelines.
What is the weirdest thing you have ever seen or experienced?
During my Ph.D. program, I went to an American Counseling Association National Conference. The President of the ACA comes out being carried on a “Royal Pavilion by 6 shirtless men.” When the dance started, imagine a bunch of drunk college professors and older counselors getting out on the floor and dancing (Google Elaine from Seinfeld dancing).
What is one talent you wish you had?
In my mind, I would be a great painter; however, if you have ever seen a painting by me, you would understand why I became a counselor (yes, they are that bad, even when following along with YouTube).
What has been your biggest accomplishment to date?
It happened 23 years ago when I married my wife, was repeated 15 years ago with my son’s birth, and again 11 years ago with my youngest son’s birth.
